Student Services

student medical insurance

Students who do not have medical insurance coverage have many options available to them. They can choose to use a private insurance carrier or go through the American College Student Association [ACSA] for medical insurance needs while attending college. Click here to view ACSA insurance options.

Please note that saa does not offer coverage to students and is in no way responsible, does not endorse, and is not liable for anything whatsoever in regard to student insurance.

student senate

Student Senate representatives from both Year 1 and Year 2 are elected by the student body to serve on this board. One member will be elected for each Art Group in first year (four total) and four students will be elected from second year. This will create a total Student Senate of 8 students.

Student Senate meets every other week during lunch. Issues addressed include everything from satisfaction/dissatisfaction with courses, projects, supplies, events, etc. to working on ways to get the students more involved with each other and the community. This group also maintains a suggestion box in the library and helps to plan student events, such as the Halloween Party and Holiday Parties.

In the past, Student Senate has also held charity fundraisers, fundraisers for the college to buy equipment for the students’ enjoyment, and published student newsletters/newspapers.

counseling services

saa is concerned with the whole student, not just the student’s artistic abilities. At saa, we are aware that life issues can impact a student’s performance in school and a student may need assistance with coping skills, relationship issues, or other personal problems. saa offers brief professional counseling [1 to 6 sessions] to any student who requests it, free of charge.

Linda Potter is independently licensed in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Students may make an appointment to see Linda by telling the saa Secretary that they would like to see her. Students are excused from class to see Linda, and it does not count against their attendance.

Examples of issues students may wish to address include: stress management, depression, anxiety, family problems, roommate problems, dating/relationship problems, substance abuse problems, and all other general mental health issues. Please refer to the saa Catalog for Professional Disclosure Statement.

student housing

The school of advertising art works with more than 30 area apartment/rental communities to assist you with the best options for student housing. Whether you want to spend a little on an economy studio apartment, or splurge for luxury accommodations, we can help point you in the right direction. Many of the charming area communities offer specials to saa students.

saa prepares for students an Apartment Information Packet each year that lists some of the highly recommended apartments students have recently resided in, including a general map of the area, phone numbers of the apartment communities, and a Roommate Questionnaire.

Average monthly rent paid by current students [excludes utility bills]:

  • 1 Bedroom: $466 per month [1 student living alone]
  • 2 Bedroom: $283 per month [2 students total]
  • 3 Bedroom: $238 per month [3 students total]

Please note that these numbers will vary by apartment and amenitites offered.

saa does not provide or guarantee housing.

roommates/carpooling

We all want to save some green, right? Of course! To help you potentially save hundreds of dollars each month, saa gives you the option of participating in the Roommate and/or Rideshare Lists. Stop by the Student Services Office to receive your questionnaire. The Roommate Questionnaire asks for information about your lifestyle habits, like if you are a morning person, love to keep your house spotless, enjoy the occasional party, and your current taste in music.

Both Questionnaires ask for limited personal information, such as your phone number and hometown, which will be shared with others looking for a roommate or someone to carpool with. This information will be compiled and only those who submit their completed questionnaires by the specified date will receive the results — usually mailed to interested students in the first week of June. Please note that saa does not pair up roommates or carpooling groups. In the event that a carpool or roommate group is late to class, the school of advertising art Attendance Policy is still in effect for that group.
