high school art show and competition rules and regulations

qualifications

  1. Any high school student, grades 9-12, is eligible to enter this competition.
  2. No artwork that has previously won the saa high school art show + competition may be entered into this show.

categories

Art will be accepted in the following categories:

  1. drawing: graphite pencil, charcoal, ink, color pencil or pastel of any subject [excluding portraits]
  2. digital media: animation, web design, illustration or graphic design produced exclusively on the computer
  3. mixed media: use of two or more mediums of any subject [excluding portraits]
  4. painting: watercolor, oil or acrylic of any subject [excluding portraits]
  5. photography: black and white or color of any subject, digital or film
  6. portrait Illustration: self portrait or portrait in any medium

saa reserves the right to determine final category placement.

submitting art

Each student may submit one piece of artwork for the competition. It is recommended that entries be mounted on black or white board.

Art entries will be accepted at saa [1725 E. David Rd. Kettering, OH] during school hours, 9-11 a.m. and 12:30-5 p.m., from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24.

saa will accept a duplicate print in color or black and white if the original art has been submitted or is on display at another contest.

Students are responsible for protecting their artwork to prevent damage during transport. It is recommended that art incorporating pastels and charcoals be protected with clear plastic. saa will not be responsible for any damaged art that was not properly protected.

high school art teachers: saa will send a representative to your high school to pick up entries during the week of April 20. Please call 877 300 9866 to schedule a pick up. Deadline to schedule a pick up: Friday, April 17.

judging

saa faculty will be selecting finalists in each category on Tuesday, April 28. Finalists will be notified by phone on April 29 + 30. On May 1, saa faculty will select the best of show and first place winners in each category. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Saturday, May 9.

awards

best of show: A $2,500 award toward his/her future education at saa will be presented to the overall best piece of artwork.

first place: A $1,000 award toward his/her future education at saa will be presented to the first place winner in each category.

finalists: 1 quarter of saturday morning art classes @ saa [includes five classes] will be presented to all finalists.

high school art show + competition awards ceremony

The high school art show will be on display at saa on Saturday, May 9 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. with an awards ceremony starting at 1:15 p.m. Teachers, parents and family members are encouraged to attend. Refreshments provided. [saa reserves the right to pre-qualify art for display.]

Portfolio reviews for admission to saa will be available with appointment after the ceremony. Call saa at 877 300 9866 to schedule a portfolio review.

art pick up

Art will be taken down and returned to students immediately following the awards presentation. Any artwork not claimed at this time may be collected during normal business hours through Friday, May 15. [saa will not be responsible for any art not collected by this date.]

high school art teachers: If you scheduled for an saa representative to pick up your students’ artwork, it will be returned to your high school during the week of May 11.
